The Essential Process of Painting Skills

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

Is painting a God-given talent or a skill that can be learned and improved with experience and practice? Although many believe the opposite, painting is more about skill than talent.

Talent is, of course, a wonderful thing, and there are people who are naturally more adept in painting than others. But to be a good painter talent alone is simply not enough. To be a good painter you must learn all the “hows” and the “whys” of the craft.

The following is the essential process of painting skills that every beginner painter should learn and develop. From understanding color and color combinations, to composition, perspective, brushwork techniques, and more.

If you’re really serious about becoming a good painter, you simply must learn and master the fundamentals. Remember, painting is a skill and like any skill, it takes time and commitment to master it. No one was ever born with the know-how to paint like a master. It takes time, effort and practice.

An artist has said she predicted the Japanese earthquake and explosion at a nuclear plant more than a year before it happened.

Claire Fearon, of Henfield, normally paints cheery abstract pictures but felt strangely compelled to depict what she felt was a nuclear catastrophe.

Now Mrs Fearon, 44, thinks she may have a spooky sixth sense for predicting the future after seeing the spitting image of her painting on news footage of the Japanese disaster.

Mrs Fearon said: “I was in the middle of doing another painting and I just became overwhelmed with this feeling of depression.”

“For the first and only time I printed off an image to use as reference. I really wanted to be sure I got the nuclear cloud right. I knew I wanted to depict a scene of devastation. I used the blue and the upsweeping brushstrokes to look like water flooding in. I put the large red gash in the blue to look like a crack in the earth and wanted the black brushstrokes on the skyline to look like a city about to fall into the cracks. I wanted to depict a nuclear reactor in trouble and its mushroom cloud. When it was finished I was really shocked, as were my family and friends.”

“I really wanted to paint this destruction, which is totally unlike me.”

Mrs Fearon sold the painting at Tooveys art auction last year, but when the news footage of the Japan disaster started to pour in, Mrs Fearon felt the images looked familiar.

She said: “I was watching the news of the earthquake and when I saw the pictures I thought ‘that’s my painting’.

Oil-Paintings-Reproductions-01

There is a large misconception that the concepts oil paintings and affordable do not go together. This misconception is based on past knowledge, from times when art was only found in museums and in the homes of high society people. However, this perception has gradually changed, and as time went on, society has realized that the concept of affordable art does exist, and people can decorate their homes with affordable art alternatives.

The most popular affordable art alternatives are the oil paintings reproductions. Master pieces created by famous artists are no longer restricted to museums and private collectors. Nowadays, the wide public has a large selection of affordable art at art galleries and online art stores: high quality oil paintings reproductions.
Oil-Paintings-Reproductions-02
Many places sell oil paintings reproductions of famous artists but also those of less famous painters. All the oil paintings reproductions have been handmade by an unknown artist. Companies hire hundreds of artists particularly for this purpose. This is the reason why this affordable art form is available in many shapes and sizes, in all colors and themes. As a result it is no longer a difficult and intimidating process to change the interior design of your home, or add some color and character to a room. All that you must do is select the painting that is right for you and your room and you have altered the appearance of the room or home.
Oil-Paintings-Reproductions-03
Before one goes about purchasing the affordable art alternative it is very important to define, in advance, the general criteria’s that you want in your oil paintings reproductions. You must first decide the function of the room, and then match a painting that will achieve that function best. It is always a good idea to keep the color scheme in mind, in addition to the mood of the room. For example, when purchasing an oil painting reproduction for children’s bedroom, it is advised to choose cartoon style oil paintings reproductions, preferably with bright colors, and not a classic Picasso painting.
Oil-Paintings-Reproductions-04
Although, oil paintings reproductions are more affordable than original paintings, they are both equally majestic. The vibrant colors, sharpness of the images in the painting have a dramatic effect on all those who enter the room. In addition oil paintings reproductions easily translate the image into feelings and mode to the surroundings. Such as a mellow pastel oil painting will create a quiet withdrawing area, and a tranquil landscape, other scenic painting will be the right environment for an office space. All wall decor, and mainly oil paintings, have an impact on all those who enter the room. It is important to remember when choosing oil paintings reproductions, that neither the subject nor the colors should create an overwhelming feeling to the room. There is much significance to the location in which the oil paintings are hung. Careful not to clutter the paintings, this can cause confusion in the room instead of the mood that you were originally aiming for.

In addition to oil painting reproductions being the affordable art of choice, and a more realistic way to decorate one’s home, they also make a special and one of a kind gift. Many artists that make the oil paintings reproductions also make commission oil paintings. In other words, you can ask the artist to make the picture according to your specifications. For Instance, have the artist add your friend’s portrait to a famous scenic painting, originally made by a famous artist, as a unique wedding gift.

Keep in mind that the process of creating handmade oil paintings reproductions is long  and can take up to several weeks to finish. All oil paintings, whether they are originals or reproductions, are made with layers of oil colors. Each layer is heavier and thicker than the one before. It is necessary to wait for the paint to dry between one layer and the other. But in most cases the results are worth the wait.

Having the option of giving a loved one a unique gift such as oil paintings reproductions has always been popular among the art loving community, and lately has been growing more and more popular throughout different classes of society. If once it was considered prestigious to give an artistic oil painting, today it is considered to be an affordable artistic gift for anyone and for any occasion.

It seems that the importance of wall decor and intuitive feeling that one receives from his surroundings have been tied together throughout history. If once people could admire the beauty of oil paintings from afar, the growing trend of oil paintings reproductions has given the average person an alternative. Now any person has a chance for an affordable artistic creation in their home. With oil paintings reproductions as an affordable art alternative, wall decor are no longer the privilege of high society and the more wealthy folks. We all can have a more beautiful home to come to and entertain at.

Josephine Wall is a popular English fantasy artist and sculptor.

Educated at Farnham and Parkstone grammar schools, she studied fine art at Bournemouth College and worked at Poole Pottery as a designer and painter of Delphis Ware. Her pottery figures include characters from Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and mythological creatures. Pieces of this work now feature in a book on the history of Poole Pottery.

Her paintings are mainly influenced and inspired by Arthur Rackham, with lesser influences from surrealist artists such as Magritte and Dalí, and the romanticism of the pre-Raphaelites.

Surreal Paintings Art Powerful Trend

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Art itself doesn’t know any boundaries and restrictions. It expresses emotions and renders the authors’ feelings in any possible way. Surrealism encompasses unbridled ideas and creativity. Being a powerful trend of art it goes directly to emotions and has a great impact on people. Surrealism implies passion and intensity in all the works created in this style.

Dont Slam The Door

Surreal-Paintings-01Don’t slam the door if you don’t want to be left without a roof over your head. The author’s lambent humour gracefully complements the whole idea of this surrealistic picture.

Brontosaurus Civitas

Surreal-Paintings-02A wonderful world lays before us in splendor and beauty when we look at surrealistic images. This world is full of fanciful creatures created by spaceless imagination of its author.

The Piano

Surreal-Paintings-03When the tips of your fingers touch gently the key board of a piano the effect can be unpredictable. Instead of strong chords or charming music the instrument can produce the things of another nature. In this case the music has taken the shape of a thick vegetation and now a splendid panorama has discovered oneself before us.

Bitter Sweet

Surreal-Paintings-06
This great number of fruits speaks for the rich harvest. Luscious apples associate with the harsh poison of the flesh, that’s the author’s point of view. He pictures the beautiful female figure surrounded by plenty of ripe mellow fruits.

Frog Power

Surreal-Paintings-07
Speaking about surrealism I just want to mention that there is no need to understand precisely each painting created in this style. You just have to feel it, to take the whole idea easily and to take the message subconsciously. Try to follow this advice in the context of this image.

Summer

Surreal-Paintings-11Summer comes and paints everything around in the vast variety of colorful dyes. The sun emerges on the horizon and brings us its dazzling shine, the wind plays gently with hair and you feel slight hints of elation in the air.

Step 1:
For cleaning oil paintings, first gather all the items required like a brush with soft bristles, a cotton cloth, and vacuum cleaner (with micro attachment kit). If you are planning to clean both the back and front of the oil painting, then carefully remove the painting and place it on a plain surface. You can cover a clean paper on the back so as to prevent dirt accumulation.

Step 2:
Fix the micro nozzle in the vacuum and gently remove the dust and dirt from the surface of the oil painting. Clean the corners of the oil painting with the soft bristle brush. If it is hard to reach the corners with the vacuum or the brush, you can wipe out the dust by using a soft cloth.

Step 3:
In case the varnish (outer protective surface) of the oil painting turns yellowish or dull, you can check for a conversation liquid to clean the varnish. Check for the reliability of the product while purchasing it. You can apply the conservation liquid in one corner of the painting to test its reactions or after application effects.

Step 4:
If you find the conservation solution good to clean oil paint varnish, then continue application of the product all over the painting surface by using a cotton swab. For better results, carry out this step in a room with proper ventilation.

Josh Hartnett

Do you know celebrities also have passion in paintings not as a buyer but as the creator himself? Aside from their acting skills, there are a lot of actors out there that possess painting skills. A lot of them are gifted singers, painters and dancers. Among the celebrity painters are David Arquette, Josh Hartnett and Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney.

Josh Hartnett, the next Van Gogh
Josh Hartnett is a promising football star who got a knee ligament injury during his high school years. Because of the injury, he shifted his attention to acting and painting. Even if he is talented and already a successful actor, Hartnett says his first passion is always painting. In fact, he even took a break and chose to travel to Africa in order to brush-up on his oil painting techniques.

Viggo Mortensen, Renaissance Man
Viggo Mortensen is very well-known for his when he masterfully portrayed the character of Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Aside from acting, he is also another celebrity painter. He is likewise a poet and photographer. He also had exhibited his art in the galleries of Los Angeles, New York and even Greece. He had his Los Angeles gallery just recently and he was able to attract 1,500 eager visitors. A lot of Mortensen’s murals were showed in the film entitled ‘A Perfect Murder’ which was shown in 1998 and was starred by Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow. A mish-mash of media is his art style. He makes use of poems, photographs and assorted objects and he layers them with paint and thereafter conceals them with an additional layer of color. Among his paintings contain apparently mundane items like sponges, wire, tape, nails and rugs.

Andre 3000: From music to Monet
We know of Andre 3000 as one of the famous duo, Outkast, who took the musical world by storm with catchy, upbeat songs. Among their songs is ‘Hey Ya!’ and among their appealing melodies is ‘Ms. Jackson’. Andre is prominent for his funky attitude and shocking sense of style. As for his painting, Andre makes use of bold colors in a surrealist style. Because of this style, he is considered as one of the most unusual celebrity painters to seek out.

Paul McCartney: Beatle, Knight, Painter
Who would not know Sir Paul McCartney from the all famous Beatles? Now, he is not only a former Beatle but also great celebrity painter. What seems to inspire Paul McCartney is the sensuality of art, revealing in the application of the paint, the textures and colors. Only when McCartney turned 40 years old that he became interested and picked up a paintbrush. A lot of his artworks were portraits and landscapes. One painting which was inspired by his first wife Linda is that entitled ‘The Kiss.’ The said painting shows two cartoon-like characters kissing where the man, who looks like Paul, is wide-eyed and is seemingly caught off guard by this surprising kiss.

David Arquette
David Arquette is tremendously thrilling in his character in the Scream series and Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. Other than that, he is also pretty handy with a can of spray paint. Even if he has a lot of acting obligations, he still has time to show his talent as a graffiti artist. He was able to paint an ocean scene on the outside of his and wife Courtney’s bedroom. He did so because he and his wife wants to feel like every day is a day at the beach. David Arquette is broadly recognized in the sphere of celebrity painters.

Jane Seymour paintings
Jane Seymour, Doctor to Dilettante
Another celebrity that is also a celebrity painter is the former Doctor Quinn. What Seymour prefers using in her paintings are water color and oil. It was over a decade ago when she first picked up painting after she encountered a period of personal struggle. When she shifted her attention to art, she was able to undergo the healing process. If you have seen her paintings, you would surely notice how colourful, vibrant and delicate her paintings are as she showcases meticulousness and admiration for the art form.

Pierce Brosnan, Bond’s Brushstrokes
Our very own James Bond is not only a sexy spy but also a celebrity painter. Pierce Brosnan was first trained as a commercial artist. Just recently, he started selling his artwork so that he can raise money for charity. Even if Brosnan’s specialty is concentrated in landscapes, he was still able to produce lots of portraits of his family. Usually, he makes use of his wife, Keely Shaye, as his model. Two of his art works which were entitled as Bisou Moi (Kiss Me) and Fiji were intended as gifts for his wife on Valentine’s Day and Christmas.

It’s really impressing to know that these celebrities have the artistic side in them. Now we have to admit the charm of art is endless.

Handmade Oil Paintings Give You an Absolutely Perfect Experience

Friday, October 15th, 2010

When you look at an oil painting, you can find great pleasure in simply sitting and soaking in the rich and vibrant colors as well as the theme and the motif of the painting itself. Oil paint is a very powerful medium where you can really feel the presence of the artist and the thought and the care that went into the artwork.  Handmade Paintings for Sale

If you are looking for a piece of art that will really speak to you, you’ll find that a handmade oil painting reproduction can give you the perfect experience. Whether you have some history with art, or you simply consider yourself someone who knows what they like, make sure that you don’t underestimate oil painting reproductions when it comes to sheer expressive quality and the ability to call out powerful emotions.

Looking at art in general, you will find that art has more expression and dimension than the image itself. For example, when you look at a poster or a print, there is a certain lack of depth. Prints and posters, no matter how good the quality of manufactured production, are by nature quite flat. The way that they reflect light is contrary to the way that the piece of art originally represented itself. When an artist paints an original picture, the medium lends itself very well to the way that the light plays off the surface of a piece. With slick prints or posters, the light will simply slide off, or worse, reflect a very nasty glare.

If you are looking at a handmade oil painting reproduction,  you will find you are seeing a much richer and much more vibrant expression of the visual experience. You will find that it is much easier to capture nuance and shape. You will have a better feeling of the way that the light saturated it as the artist was originally painting it.

One of the most notable things about oil painting reproductions is the fact that you can see the strokes of the brush, something that is all but impossible when it comes to prints, no matter how good they are. You will be seeing light that reflects off small irregularities when it comes to the painting itself and you will be able to be more immediately a part of the painting.

An oil painting reproduction is also a piece of art that holds a great deal of the personality of the artist. Unlike a poster or a print, you will find that there is a very intimate feeling to an oil painting. Each individual painting receives special care from the person who painted it. Having a hand-painted oil painting in your home can be a great reminder of the importance of the personal touch in your life. Don’t neglect the charm and intimacy that can be provided to your living environment through the display of a lovely oil painting. Handmade paintings online
